Dental Implants
Missing teeth and uncomfortable dentures can take the joy out of the everyday things you love. If you’re tired of missing out on your favorite foods and feeling self-conscious when you speak, dental implants will change your life!
Dental implants look and function like natural teeth, making them the preferred method of tooth replacement for dentists and patients alike. Healthy implants can also help prevent further bone loss and preserve the shape of your lips, jaw, and face.

5 Important Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants are considered the gold standard for tooth replacement and are preferred by dentists and patients for several reasons:
- Implants look and function like natural teeth. If you have been living with missing teeth that made it difficult to chew, you can go back to eating whatever you like.
- Implants are a healthy tooth replacement because they help prevent further bone loss and keep the jawbone strong and healthy.
- Implants become part of your dental anatomy and can last a lifetime when cared for properly.
- Implants are a standalone tooth replacement, so our dentists can replace a missing tooth without using surrounding teeth for support.
- Implants improve facial aesthetics by preserving the shape and fullness of the lips, jaw, and face.
If you have one missing, we use a single crown and implant to replace it. If you have several missing teeth, our dentists recommend an implant-supported bridge to replace them. However, if you are missing all your teeth, we use an implant-supported full bridge or complete denture.
How Dental Implants Work
A dental implant consists of three pieces: a titanium implant post, a connecting piece called an abutment, and the prosthetic tooth that restores function and completes your smile.
Dental Implant Placement
The dentists at Cosmetic and Dental Implant Center have extensive training in placing and restoring implants. You can trust that they use leading-edge technology and the highest quality materials to place your dental implant.
Our dentists carefully plan your implant surgery using sophisticated 3-D cone beam imaging. This technology allows them to determine the precise position to place your implant for an efficient procedure and optimal long-term outcomes.
Dental implant surgery takes about two hours, and our dentists perform it under local anesthesia so that you won’t feel anything. We also offer sedation dentistry for your comfort and to take the edge off any anxiety.
Dental Implant Healing: Osseointegration
Titanium is a safe material used in medicine for decades as joint replacement. Titanium is biocompatible, which means it is compatible with living tissue, so it gradually fuses with bone and tissue around it. This process is called osseointegration and is what gives the implant unparalleled stability.
Full implant healing times are different for everyone but take about 3–6 months.
Placing the Implant Abutment
When the implant is fully integrated, you will come to one of our conveniently located offices, where our dentists uncover the implant and attach the abutment. This part of the implant connects the post in your jaw to the prosthetic tooth—a dental crown for a single tooth and a bridge or denture for multiple teeth.
Attaching the Tooth Restoration
Our dentists in Orange County custom-craft beautiful tooth restorations with a realistic appearance that blends harmoniously with surrounding teeth. The final step is to attach the prosthetic to the abutment, and you’ll leave our office with a fully functional, beautiful replacement tooth.
Our Implant Dentures Stay Securely in Place
If you are missing all or most teeth in your upper arch, lower arch, or both, our dentists might recommend an implant denture. This innovative tooth replacement solution stabilizes your denture so you can laugh, chew, speak, and smile confidently.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
The quality and quantity of the jawbone where we wish to place the implant are vital to the procedure’s success. For example, the upper back jaw is considered the most difficult area to place an implant due to insufficient bone quantity and its proximity to the sinuses.
In this case, our dentists recommend a procedure called sinus augmentation to ensure that they can place your implant in the well-developed bone.
Jawbone deformities can also leave you with inadequate jawbone for implant placement. To correct this, our dentists use bone grafting to modify the ridge. After the bone graft heals, our dentists can perform successful implant surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dental implant surgery does not hurt because we use very powerful local anesthetics to numb the area we are treating. Once the nerves in the targeted area are deadened to any sensation, you won’t feel any pain. You will remain comfortable, and our dentists can work most efficiently to complete the implant placement procedure.
Comfortable Implant Surgery with Sedation Dentistry
Getting a dental implant placed is more straightforward than many people think. Even so, many patients, especially those with dental anxiety, prefer to be sedated for dental implant surgery. At CDIC, we offer oral conscious sedation and IV sedation that we tailor to your specific level of anxiety.
Dental Implant Surgery Recovery
Most of our patients report only minor discomfort after placement and say they experienced more soreness after tooth extraction than after implant surgery. You can easily resolve any minor soreness with over-the-counter pain relievers or pain medications prescribed by our dentists.

Dental Implants Technology
3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomograhy (CBCT)
Two-dimensional digital x-rays are indispensable diagnostic tools, but sometimes our dentists need to see details that can only be viewed in 3-D. That is when our dentists turn to 3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), a special type of imaging technology that we use for planning dental implant placement and other procedures.
CBCT gives our dentists a three-dimensional, 360-degree view of the entire mouth, showing teeth, bone thickness, gum structures, sinuses, and nerve orientation. Planning dental implant placement requires a high degree of precision, and seeing the placement of these features is critical to ensure a comfortable procedure and positive long-term outcomes.
Our dentists also use CBCT to plan routine tooth extractions, impacted wisdom tooth extractions, and root canals. Your CBCT scans become part of your digital patient record for easy, efficient access by our dental team.
