Gentle Root Canal Therapy

We understand that root canal treatment is probably one of dentistry's most dreaded and misunderstood procedures. Many people associate the procedure with pain, but it isn't the root canal that is painful—the pain is caused by the infection deep inside the tooth.

Gentle root canal treatment at the Cosmetic and Dental Implant Center is the only way to eliminate your pain and the reason behind it. And you can rest easy knowing we will do everything to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Do You Need Emergency Root Canal Treatment?

If you have severe tooth pain and think you need a root canal, call one of our convenient dental offices in Huntington Beach, Brea, Placentia, or Cypress. We offer emergency dental care and will see you the same day to relieve your pain and ensure you are comfortable until we can schedule treatment.

Why Do I Need a Root Canal?

Our teeth are composed of three layers: enamel, dentin, and pulp. Enamel is the hard outer layer that's visible when you smile, and dentin is the softer yellowish layer beneath. At the center of your tooth is dental pulp, the soft tissue, blood vessels, and nerves that nourish the tooth and keep it alive.

While the pulp area is more protected than enamel, it is still vulnerable to physical damage and disease that cause infection, inflammation, and intense pain. Without root canal therapy, our only option would be to remove the tooth.

Some signs that you have an infected tooth or dental abscess include:

  • Severe, throbbing tooth pain
  • Swollen or inflamed gums
  • Jaw swelling
  • A raised whitish bump on the gums
  • Sharp pain when touching the tooth
  • Extreme sensitivity to hot and cold
  • A dark-looking tooth
  • A foul taste in the mouth

How Is Gentle Root Canal Therapy Performed?

First, our dentists will use advanced digital imaging and x-rays to evaluate the extent and location of the infection. Next, a strong local anesthetic is used to numb the area so that you don't feel any pain during your procedure.

Our dentists then remove the infected pulp using state-of-the-art technology, disinfect the area, then fill it with a material that prevents reinfection. The final steps are to seal the tooth and place a temporary filling to protect it.

Root Canal Treatment vs. Removing the Tooth

Tooth pain associated with an infection or dental abscess can be crippling. As the infection spreads to the tooth's nerves, the discomfort intensifies, and, left untreated, the damage will destroy the structure, causing tooth loss.

At this point, some people are tempted to remove the tooth rather than have a root canal. We don't recommend this, as it is crucial for your oral health to retain your teeth for as long as possible.

Root canal treatment preserves the tooth and extends its lifespan by several years. Once a tooth is gone, it is gone for good, and missing teeth can lead to a whole array of other oral health issues.

Our dentists have decades of combined experience and have performed hundreds of comfortable root canals with a high degree of success. However, it's crucial to maintain excellent oral hygiene and routine teeth cleanings to avoid reinfection.

After Root Canal Treatment

You can expect some soreness after your procedure, but the good news is that it only lasts a day or two and is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen.

Our dental team will book an appointment for you to see us about two weeks after your procedure. At t is time, we will check for proper healing and place a dental crown on the tooth to protect it.

How Can You Make Me Comfortable during a Root Canal?

The caring dental team at CDIC is here to ensure that you feel relaxed and confident in our care, and they do everything to make your appointment stress-free and comfortable.

Sedation Dentistry

For patients needing more help relaxing, we offer sedation dentistry at our Huntington Beach, Brea, and Placentia dental offices. Oral conscious sedation and IV sedation make the process pain-free and keep you comfortable during your procedure.

IV sedation is especially helpful as the effects provide complete relaxation, and many patients don't have any memory of the procedure.

Leading-Edge Dental Technology

It's critical to thoroughly clear away the root infection, and the traditional manual instruments used make this a time-consuming process. At CDIC, we use leading-edge rotary endodontic technology that makes root canals significantly more efficient and comfortable so you can spend less time in the dental chair.

Leading-Edge Root Canal Technology

At CDIC, we use leading-edge rotary endodontic technology that improves the comfort, efficiency, and outcomes of root canal treatment. Rotary endodontics uses electrically-powered technology to clean out infected root canals thoroughly and efficiently.

Sedation Dentistry

If you’re nervous about your procedure, we can help you with sedation dentistry tailored to your needs.

Oral conscious sedation is a sedative that you take orally about an hour before your appointment so that you are already calm and relaxed when you arrive.

IV sedation offers deeper relaxation that often results in little to no memory of what happened during the procedure. A trained anesthesiologist administers IV sedation in the comfort of our dental office and tailors the potency to your anxiety level.

Gentle Root Canal Therapy Technology

Rotary Endodontics

The goal of root canal treatment is to relieve pain by removing the infected dental pulp from inside the tooth. If you’ve had a root canal, you probably remember the traditional method where the dentist used manual steel files to meticulously clean out the canals. While this method is effective, it takes time, and it often produces unpleasant vibrations for the patient.

At CDIC, we use leading-edge rotary endodontic technology that makes removing infected pulp much more efficient and comfortable for the patient. Rotary endodontics is electrically powered, and the flexible nickel-titanium tip thoroughly clears away the infected material. Because the design of this technology allows our dentists to reach deeper into curved root canals to clean them thoroughly, we can help ensure more favorable long-term outcomes.
